As the nature and delivery of healthcare continues to change, dental hygienists are finding more opportunities in a wider range of settings than ever before. Hygienists continue to provide essential services in the traditional dental office setting. You'll also find them in specialty centers, hospitals, long term care facilities, correctional settings, dental sales, education, and even policy-making in community health settings.

The U offers the only dental hygiene program in South Dakota. Over the course of its 30-year history, the program has earned an impeccable reputation for producing professional, competent dental hygienists dedicated to life-long learning and improving the health of the communities they serve.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene degree offers the opportunity for the hygienist to have flexibility in choice of career. Settings beyond the private dental practice include many different health care environments including hospitals, health maintenance organizations or long-term care facilities, public schools, community health clinics, veterinary dentistry, dental hygiene educational facilities, research facilities, or in areas such as pharmaceutical sales or health products industry. The Associate of Science degree is also available.
