Innovations in Disaster Psychology 2005: Research Strategies and Methodology
Science is the cornerstone of psychology. As the field of disaster psychology develops, it is critical that those advances be founded on valid research. This year's DMHI conference will celebrate Innovations in research in the field. Breakthrough strategies and methodology will be featured and participants will have an opportunity to question presenters at some length. This conference is intended for disaster mental health professionals, and health and mental health professionals nationally and internationally. The overall objective is for the participants to learn more about the development or improvement of research programs in disaster psychology or to learn how to more effectively evaluate research in disaster psychology. The conference will be held September 22 - 24, 2005 in South Dakota's glorious Black Hills.
The conference will include ten speakers. Each will have 50 minutes to present, followed by a 20 minute question/answer session. The Saturday session will take place at the Crazy Horse Memorial educational center. (There will be time to enjoy the memorial and the wonderful museum and gift shops featuring Native American crafts.)
As part of the dinner and reception Thursday evening, there will also be a presentation of participant posters so that our participants can present their own research ideas in a more formal way. We hope that many of you will share your innovative research by presenting a poster. Click here for poster guidelines. Please submit your poster proposal so that it arrives by August 19, 2005.
Register now and come discuss with us the future of research in the field.
Continuing Education Credit:
The DMHI is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. The DMHI maintains responsibility for the program. Conference Atmosphere
This conference is designed to provide an opportunity to learn, share, and network in a professional, but comfortable atmosphere. Most meals and breaks are included in the price of registration, as are the outings. The conference is deliberately kept relatively small to enhance the opportunities for informal sharing. And it all takes place in the beauty of South Dakota's Black Hills!
Thursday night will feature a dinner and reception/poster session. Friday evening we will go to Mount Rushmore National Memorial for the lighting ceremony. It's an experience that never loses its power. After Saturday's session we will have an outing to one of the attractions in the area. All of this included in the registration fee.
The conference is tentatively scheduled at the Radisson Hotel in Rapid City, South Dakota.
