The Great Plains Alliance for Computers and Writing is a branch of the national Alliance for Computers and Writing. When we say "Great Plains," we're talking about the Dakotas, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and surrounding areas that consider themselves to be part of the Great Plains--with the Rocky Mountains as our western boundary and the Mississippi River valley and eastern deciduous forests as our eastern boundary. The Great Plains region stretches up into Canada (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta) and down to the southern tip of Texas, taking in parts of Montana, Minnesota, Wyoming, Colorado, Missouri, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
The Great Plains Alliance for Computers and Writing (GPACW) welcomes scholars, teachers, and administrators from all disciplines and from all levels, kindergarten though college, along with instructional technology experts and graduate students in relevant fields of study. We're interested in how to use computers and other forms of technology effectively to improve students as writers. As the Great Plains branch of the ACW, we especially invite you to share ideas and concerns pertaining to the Great Plains region.
The GPACW held its annual conference at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion on February 26-27, 2000 (Saturday/Sunday).
This year, people could attend two conferences for the price of one! We held the GPACW Conference concurrently with the John R. Milton Writers Conference at USD, a conference that celebrates Great Plains literature and writers. We shared some of the same sessions and resources, making this a unique joint venture. Participants who registered for the GPACW Conference could freely attend events at either conference.
