Start Your Creative Future

In today's increasingly visual world, professional artists have an impact on almost every aspect of contemporary life. As a professional visual artist, your career options may include working as a professional artist, graphic designer, photographer, art educator and more.

Art at the University of South Dakota offers you unique programs to prepare you for a professional visual arts career. Our curriculum is organized to provide comprehensive educational programs, research opportunities, and cultural services to the people of the state and beyond. Located within the distinctive Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts, we are part of South Dakota's only College of Fine Arts and are the only South Dakota Art Department accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

USD's Art Department is South Dakota's only art program offering the professional B.F.A. (Bachelor of Fine Arts) studio art degree and B.F.A./Art Education degree with emphasis areas in ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.

Adding to our distinctive programs of study, we offer the state's only M.F.A. (Master of Fine Arts) graduate studio degree. Emphasis areas include graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.

We invite you to visit us in the Department of Art and see our unique programs for yourself.
