The Coalition of Addiction Students and Professionals Pursuing Advocacy (CASPPA) is a student organization at USD associated with addiction studies. Our mission is to educate and unite all professionals about the importance of addiction treatment and prevention legislation. We goals are to raise awareness among the university community about the addiction studies program and participate in legislative advocacy pertaining to the addiction and prevention profession on a state and national level. CASPPA holds monthly meetings on campus and CASPPA officers attend The Association for Addiction Professionals conference in Washington D.C. every year.
Seniors who major in addiction studies are encouraged to attend the South Dakota Association of Addiction and Prevention Professionals state conference.
Our students receive shadowing, service learning and supervised field experiences in a variety of addiction treatment and prevention settings. Field experience site supervisors consistently comment on the high level of skills and preparedness of our students.
