Human Factors

Human factors involves the discovery of information regarding human behavior, abilities and limitations and applies these characteristics to the design of systems, tasks, machines, tools and environments to enhance efficiency, safety and productivity in their use.

Our Program: The Human Factors Program at the University of South Dakota offers graduate training leading to a Ph.D. degree. Students will be able to explore individual interests within the broad area of human factors psychology. The program is designed to prepare students for careers in business, industry and government.

We admit a select group of students each year. The interests of these students are coordinated with the existing research interests of the faculty. USD promotes an independent working environment in which students are encouraged to pursue their degree requirements with the guidance and support of the faculty. The program is designed to provide a strong theoretical base that can be readily applied to various working environments.
