Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Welcome to the University of South Dakota Clinical Laboratory Science Program

Clinical laboratory scientists are integral members of the healthcare team.

Clinical laboratory scientists
perform a wide variety of clinical laboratory tests on body fluids and tissues, determining the presence or absence of disease, monitoring a patient's response to therapy and aiding in the prevention of illness and maintenance of health.

Students in the Clinical Laboratory Science Program complete 3 years (a minimum of 86 hours) on campus, followed by a 50-week, 40-hour clinical program with an affiliated hospital medical technology program beginning the summer following the junior year.  Completion of the 4-year program results in a BS degree in Clinical Laboratory Science and eligibility to take a national certification exam.
