In Demand
Acute Need
Family medicine is a demanding but rewarding career. Primary care is needed more than ever throughout the country and South Dakota is no exception. As a family physician, you can help address this critical need. You will have the satisfaction of treating a patient instead of an organ system, disease or condition. You will develop meaningful relationships with patients, helping them to prevent illness and lead a healthy life.
Career Counseling
Our academic and clinical faculty members not only provide a high quality education for medical students and residents, we also act as role models to promote family medicine. We hold various activities to answer questions about family medicine, and we are always available to provide career counseling to interested students.
Leaders
Our faculty members provide leadership in family medicine in a number of ways:
- Leading national organizations
- Serving on national organizational boards and esteemed hospital boards
- Co-editing the state medical journal
- Winning national awards for excellence
- Publishing cutting-edge research
David Brechtelsbauer, M.D., one of our clinical faculty members, is serving as the President of the American Medical Directors Association.
