The Department of Neurosciences interacts with medical students throughout the four-year curriculum. Periodic sessions are held during Pillar 1, including a session on history taking and a session on the neurologic examination. In Pillar 2, the students participate in a longitudinal integrated clerkship on all campuses. Students spend the equivalent of one half-day a month in the clinic setting. In Pillar 3, various electives are offered including Neuro Critical Care, Clinical Neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
The department offers additional experiences as well. Pillar 2 students are introduced to palliative and hospices care in their interdisciplinary palliative care seminar. Sessions included didactic education, interactive interdisciplinary group discussion and 1-on-1 home visits with patients enrolled in palliative/hospice care.
A bioethics curriculum is also offered to the students.
