Minnesota professor featured guest at VLP poetry reading, slam

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The Vermillion Literary Project is hosting a poetry reading and poetry slam on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Coffee Shop Gallery, which is located at 24 W. Main St. in downtown Vermillion. The poetry reading will feature Professor Gary Dop.

After growing up in Germany and the Midwest, Dop received his master's degree in writing from the University of Nebraska, where he was awarded the MFA Creative Writing Award as the program’s top student. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Poetry Northwest, New Letters, The New York Quarterlyand Rattle.  This year, two of his poems will appear in the Poetry Foundation’s syndicated newspaper column "American Life in Poetry." Dop, an assistant professor of English at North Central University, currently resides in Minneapolis with his wife and three daughters.  His reading will be followed by a poetry slam – open to anyone.
