VERMILLION, S.D. -- Dakota Days activities at The University of South Dakota are in full swing following the coronation of the 2009 Homecoming King and Queen Tuesday night.
Anne Grady, daughter of Tim and Linda Grady of Le Mars, Iowa, was crowned queen while Patrick Siegling, son of Rod and Robbi Siegling of Redfield, S.D., was named king during a ceremony at the Muenster University Center. Anne, a chemistry and history major, was sponsored by the USD Student Government Association. Patrick, a health services administration major, was sponsored by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Additional queen candidates included Emily Bolon of Olympia, Wash., daughter of Tom and Sheri Bolon; Alex Braegelmann of Watertown, Minn., daughter of Joe and Vicki Braegelmann; Tracy Elsen of Hecla, S.D., daughter of Owen and Janet Elsen; Sarah Lovre of Sioux Falls, S.D., daughter of Mark and Janet Lovre; Sarah Skattum of Rapid City, S.D., daughter of Craig Skattum and Bonni Boschee; and Jodi Sutton of Watertown, S.D., daughter of Jim and Jolene Sutton.
King candidates were Blake Alberts of Rapid City, S.D., son of Ka and Diane Alberts; Kevin Haiar from Sioux Falls, S.D., son of Mike and Mary Haiar; Matt Leedom of Sioux Falls, S.D., son of Joe and Mary Leedom; Will Mortenson of Fort Pierre, S.D., son of Curt and Kim Mortenson; Robb Nielsen from Battle Creek, Iowa, son of Wayne and Diana Nielsen; and Casey Pratt of Castlewood, S.D., son of Mitch and Tina Pratt.
“Treasure the Tradition” is this year’s Dakota Days theme. Additional Dakota Days events include presentation of the Al Neuharth Award for Excellence in Media to Katie Couric, anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News, on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the DakotaDome; dedication of the new School of Business building at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9; and the All-Alumni Reunion and Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. at the Muenster University Center. The 95th annual Dakota Days Parade on Main Street is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 followed by USD’s football game vs. the University of California-Davis at 2 p.m. in the DakotaDome.
