VERMILLION, S.D. -- Richard Van Den Hul, vice president of finance and administration at The University of South Dakota since 2006, has accepted the position of vice president for business and financial affairs at Western Washington University, Bellingham, Wash., effective July 8.

“Rich has been an integral part of success on the USD campus for 14 years. His vision, leadership and commitment have served this institution well,” stated James W. We wish him nothing but the best as he pursues his personal and professional goals.”

An interim vice president for finance and administration will be appointed as the University begins a national search for the position.

Before joining The U, he was director of research at the Office of the Executive Director for the South Dakota Board of Regents and served as a principal fiscal analyst for the South Dakota Legislative Research Council. Van Den Hul received his M.B.A. from USD, and a B.S. in commercial economics and agriculture business from South Dakota State University.

“I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had here at USD and value the great relationships I’ve developed,” said Van Den Hul, who has three daughters, Olivia, Emily and Sophie with wife, Kerri. “We can be proud of the many accomplishments we’ve had here, we truly transformed the campus.”

A native of the Brandon, S.D., and Sioux Falls, S.D. area, Van Den Hul will serve as the chief financial and business officer of Western Washington University, reporting directly to the president.
