12/5/2007 - USD President James Abbott and SDSU President David Chicoine announce a collaborative effort in healthcare education. The Health Science Alliance is the first ever formal multi-college collaboration between the two universities.
5/21/2007 - The USD Foundation announces that Campaign South Dakota, which was co-chaired by Sioux Falls residents and USD alums Richard Cutler and Linda Mickelson Graham, raised more than $133 million. Al Neuharth, a USD alum and founder of “USA Today” served as honorary national chair.
3/31/2007 - William O. “Doc” Farber, professor emeritus of political science at The University of South Dakota, died March 24, 2007 in Vermillion, S.D. He was 96. “Generations of students had the privilege of learning lifelong lessons from Doc Farber,” noted James W. Abbott, president of The University of South Dakota. “His passion for teaching and his dedication to public service were extraordinary. Thanks to facilities and programs championed by Doc, like the W.O. 10/24/2006 - Beginning in 1996, Walt Pavlo began a scheme with a couple of co-workers, resulting in $6 million in fraudulent wire payments. In January 2001, Pavlo plead guilty to wire fraud and money laundering. He entered federal prison shortly thereafter. Listen while Mr. Pavlo shares his cautionary tale of corrupt dealings within a large corporation and gain an understanding of the inner-workings and motivations of white-collar crimes.

6/2/2006 - The Northern Plains Undergraduate Research Center (NPURC) holds its first ever NPURC "Summer Kick-Off Meeting" at the Al Neuharth Media Center. South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds offers the keynote address. NPURC supports an ambitious approach to revolutionizing the undergraduate research culture at The University of South Dakota, which serves as the lead institution, along with seven regional colleges with diverse missions and student populations.
4/27/2006 - Medina has served with the CIA since 1978, holding positions of increasing responsibility to include chief of the Strategic Assessments Group in the Office of Transnational Issues, Directorate of Intelligence. She has led analysts working on issues in southern Africa and Central America, helped design the Global Coverage Program and has innovated new production methods to support policymakers.
4/10/2006 - Topic: "Lessons in Leadership". Gingrich was the inaugural presenter at the Edmund Burke Lecture, made possible through a donation by Jim Bunt, an Aberdeen, S.D. native and alumnus of The U. The lecture event is named after the champion of conservatism Edmund Burke. Burke, of Irish descent, was a lawyer, writer and politician, and considered one of the foremost political thinkers of 18th century England. He is remembered most for his criticism of the French Revolution and is regarded as the "father" of modern conservatism.
