Meet New People
You will have the opportunity to meet, interact and engage with countless new people when you join a sorority or fraternity. Respect and acting with good and courteous conduct is expected of all sorority and fraternity chapters.
Every sorority and fraternity chapter in the country has instituted a NO HAZING policy. If you are concerned, please ask plenty of questions about the process. There is simply no place for hazing. Hazing is detrimental to a positive college experience and will NOT be tolerated in the Greek experience.
Joining a Greek organization does have advantages socially. You will meet new people and will be exposed to new cultures. Go Greek for the complete experience, not just to party. Remember that Animal House is a movie and GREEK is a TV show.
Greek students learn quickly how to manage their busy schedules, which will help them scholastically and professionally as they move into the workforce. The more time members spend with their fellow members participating in campus activities, the more they will get out of their Greek experience.
Who's in Charge
Elected officers manage the day-to-day operations of the organization with the assistance and advice of alumni, headquarters staff and professional university officials.
Role as a Parent
Be supportive and learn as much as you can by asking questions of your son or daughter as he or she meets people through the recruitment process. Greek members will be more than happy to tell you about their organization.
Do you have a family member who is Greek? You may want to join the same organization or maybe you want to try a new experience of your own. If these family members are valued resources to you, then take advantage of their advice. However, understand that this is ultimately your decision.
Membership fees for Greek organizations are an investment in your future.
