Requests for Housing Exemption or Contract Release are requests to not have to live on-campus and to receive back the University Deposit. Students should complete a Housing Exemptions if they do not have a contract with University Housing. If students have a contract with University Housing, students should complete a Contract Release request.

To request an exemption or release, you should log on to the Online Housing Application System.

What's the Difference?

 Housing Exemption  Contract Release
For students who do not have a contract with University Housing

Examples:
  • Eligible to live off-campus
  • Commuting from home
  • Participating in an approved university program
  • Leaving or graduating from USD
  • Married and/or have children
  • Fraternity/Sorority exemption
  • Significant medical/financial hardship
For students who have a contract with University Housing and request to be released

Examples:
  • Leaving or graduating from USD
  • Participating in an approved university program
  • Fraternity/Sorority release
  • Financial/medical hardship
  • Married and/or have children
