The Ellis Finance & Analytics Lab will use Bloomberg Terminals and other software to offer students a transformative learning environment. Bloomberg is the industry standard for finance and business information.

Through the Bloomberg Terminals, educators and students can access cross-asset, real-time data and historical time series analysis in all markets. Students will learn how to analyze financial markets, assess economic scenarios and interpret the key news developments that impact the global economy.

“This technology will empower USD students with hands-on knowledge and real-world experience to give them a competitive advantage in the marketplace,” said Venky Venkatachalam, Ph.D., dean of the Beacom School of Business. Planning and design work is underway and the lab will be ready for student and faculty use in fall 2019.

“The Ellis Finance & Analytics Lab is one more way that we are providing our students with a world-class education at the Beacom School of Business,” Venkatachalam said. “The Bloomberg technology will allow our faculty and students to integrate theory with real-world practice, better preparing them for success in their careers.”

Key features and benefits of the Ellis Finance & Analytics Lab include:

  • Collaborative learning environment for students and faculty
  • State of the art technology including 12 Bloomberg Terminals and additional laptop computers to aid in complex investment decisions
  • Access to a vast amount of corporate data, research, news and analytics to facilitate interdisciplinary research and study
  • Advanced computer hardware and software for analysis and data visualization
  • Simulation tools to enable financial decision-making

“This generous gift from the Ellis family will allow us to enrich our curriculum at USD and help us to continue to attract the best students and faculty into the future,” said USD President Sheila Gestring. “We are incredibly grateful for the investment the Ellis family has made in USD.”

By building the Ellis Finance & Analytics Lab, USD faculty will be able to better integrate industry-leading data, research, news and analytics into teaching curriculum and research.

“This new lab will provide transformative learning opportunities for the students as well as creative research opportunities for the faculty in the business school. I am happy that I can help make the Finance & Analytics lab a reality for the faculty and students of USD,” said Gary Ellis.
