In this role, Huber will utilize her expertise to bridge the gap between scientific research and medical communications for Eikon, a drug discovering and development company.

Huber’s wide array of experiences at the USD Sanford School of Medicine helped prepare her for this role. Under the mentorship of Hongmin Wang, Ph.D., professor of basic biomedical sciences, Huber published six manuscripts in scientific journals, contributions that have enriched the academic community and paved the way for advancements in the industry. In addition to her impressive research portfolio, Huber completed a highly competitive internship in medical writing at Merck, further honing her skills in effectively communicating scientific information to a wide audience and preparing her for a career at Eikon.

While at USD, Huber's leadership and dedication extended beyond her research pursuits. She served as the president of the Biomedical Graduate Student Organization, spearheading initiatives that fostered collaboration, growth and a sense of community among her peers. As a peer mentor for the Summer Program for Undergraduate Research in Addiction (SPURA), she offered invaluable guidance and support to fellow students, inspiring them to achieve their full potential. Furthermore, Huber played a crucial role as a student representative for the Health Affairs Medical Informatics Committee, contributing her insights and representing the student body's interests.

Huber's dedication and contributions to the field have not gone unnoticed. She has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and scholarships, including the Gary N. Piquette Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship, Karen Schraeder Memorial Scholarship, USD's Graduate Research and Creative Scholarship, and the USD-N3 Student Research Grant. Additionally, her outstanding presentation skills earned her a second place in the Three Minute Thesis Competition at USD.

“The G-RISE program, alongside the University of South Dakota, extends heartfelt congratulations to Christa Huber on her remarkable accomplishments and wishes her continued success as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her career,” said Lisa McFadden, Ph.D., associate professor of basic biomedical sciences and member of the G-RISE Center administrative team. “Her contributions to the field of biomedical research and her unwavering commitment to scientific excellence serve as an inspiration to aspiring scientists and researchers.”
