Application Details

Eight students are selected for the program based on a competitive application process. Students who have previously participated in SPURA are eligible to apply again, but will likely be given a lower priority over first-time applicants. Learn more and apply by February 16.

  • Step 1
    • Complete the application form below and submit on or before February 16.
  • Step 2
    • Provide current unofficial transcripts.
      • Have unofficial transcripts emailed directly to: CBBRe@usd.edu
      • If the school cannot email directly:
        • Obtain a copy of your transcripts
        • Scan or photograph transcripts (JPEGs are best, but legibility is a must)
        • Check to make sure the file size is not too large (300kb)
        • Email the transcript to: CBBRe@usd.edu

    • Have your letter of support from your faculty mentor sent directly to: CBBRe@usd.edu

Research Information

Briefly describe your research area of interest. Why is this area of research important? How does this interest align with the goals of your selected mentor and the SPURA program (300 words or less)?

What are you hoping to gain in terms of career/professional development by participating in SPURA? Describe your educational background and achievements, including information on barriers (educational, personal, social, and/or cultural) you may have personally faced and how you overcame them. For example, if your family members experienced barriers in higher education, whether you are the first person in your family to go to college, and whether you have experienced a lack of role models or informational resources about higher education and careers. This can also include an optional personal statement regarding your interest in the subject of drug abuse, addiction and related mental health conditions. (500 words or less)
