The Division of Teacher Residency & Education is focused on preparing effective, responsive teachers who can meet the needs of all students in today's schools. Through unique features such as a robust yearlong residency, an emphasis on technology and curriculum that recognizes a variety of learners, our division offers an enriching education for educators and leaders.

Our students engage in learning in and beyond that classroom – gaining a rich foundation in theory and evidence-based practice and then applying that knowledge in real-world settings. A sailboat voyage off the coast of Mexico sparked a transformative journey for Nancy ’97, ’98, and Jeff Kirstein ‘89, inspiring them to establish an experiential farm and animal sanctuary near Lennox, South Dakota.
The Finnish education system is considered to be one of the best in the world, and as one of the leading schools of education in the region, the University of South Dakota School of Education sent several faculty members to Finland to learn from their innovative education programs.
