Hundreds of students walking across campus on move-in day

Move-In Day

It's time to get ready for Move-In Day!

We're excited to welcome you to campus soon as you start your next chapter at the University of South Dakota.

You will receive more information regarding Move-In Day via your USD email. Please continue to check your email and visit this webpage for updates.

Coyote Card ID

Your Coyote Card and Coyote Card Mobile ID are your most important pieces of identification at USD. These are used for access to your residence hall, meals and so much more. Please request your Coyote Card online so it's ready for you when you arrive on campus.

Bed Lofting

Beds may be lofted in all North Campus (Beede, Mickelson and Olson) and Burgess/Norton rooms using lofts provided by University Housing at a rate of $58.00 per semester. Outside lofts are prohibited in the residence halls. Beds in Coyote Village and McFadden may not be lofted due to the single-bedroom setup. Richardson rooms have a self-lofting bed. If you are interested in renting a loft, please complete a Loft Request in the USD Housing Portal. The deadline to request a loft to have in your room on Move-In Day is July 15 for the Fall semester and December 15 for the Spring Semester.

Billing

Your on-campus housing room bill will appear on your student account in SDePay prior to the start of the semester. Room and meal plan rates can be found online

Items for Your Room

University Housing has partnered with several companies to assist you in purchasing items for your room. USD Housing receives a percentage of the sales to invest back into the residence halls via the Residence Hall Association and programming. Check out USD.DormRoom.com for bedding and organization items, and consider renting a fridge or microwave/refrigerator combination through CollegeProducts.com and have it waiting in your room when you arrive.

Meal Plans

o You can view the meal plan you selected as part of your housing application in the USD Housing Portal. If you wish to change that meal plan, you have until approximately two weeks into the semester to do so; log in to the housing portal, click "Available Housing Applications," select your active housing application for and then navigate to the page for meal plans.

Parking Permits

If you plan to park a vehicle on campus, a parking permit is required. Permits can be purchased online at parking.usd.edu. Permits are $170.

Early Arrival Requests

a. If you wish to check into your room before the official Move-In Day and start of your contract, please submit an Early Arrival Request in the USD Housing Portal. You will be billed a nightly rate to your SDePay account after the first week of classes start. If you are part of a group moving in early, you will be contacted by the leader/coach of that group regarding early move-in. If your department is paying for your early arrival, please note that department in the Early Arrival Request otherwise you will be billed. Those who move in early will report to their residence hall to get keys and move in.
