The PCAOB Scholars Program is a nationally recognized initiative of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the federal body that oversees the audits of public companies in the United States. The program identifies and supports exceptional accounting students whose academic records, professional trajectories and commitment to the field reflect the standards the accounting profession demands at its highest levels. Being named a PCAOB Scholar places a student in select company nationwide and it carries the kind of recognition that follows a career.

Stevens’ nomination came through Beacom's own PCAOB Scholars Committee, chaired by Sara Tippit, Ph.D., assistant professor of accounting.

"As chair of our school's PCAOB Scholars Committee, I had the privilege of working alongside fellow committee members to evaluate candidates and nominate Cloie for this prestigious recognition," Tippit said. "We are pleased to see her recognized for her academic excellence, dedication and strong potential in the field of accounting."

Stevens' path to business school is a story of community and connection. After owning and operating a bakery business throughout high school, she knew she wanted to pursue a degree in business. Her older brother, a USD alumnus then attending the Sanford School of Medicine, reached out to former fraternity brothers who were Beacom School of Business alumni. Each of them wrote her a letter about their experience at USD and why they believed she should become a Coyote. That gesture, paired with a campus visit, made the decision easy. Now a proud USD graduate and soon-to-be two-time graduate, she reflects on the choice with certainty.

"This scholarship not only eases the financial burden of pursuing my graduate education but also inspires me to continue striving for excellence in both my academic and professional endeavors," she said. "I am incredibly grateful to the Beacom School of Business for the guidance, encouragement and unwavering support I have received from its outstanding faculty. Their mentorship played a significant role in giving me the confidence to apply for this scholarship and ultimately made this achievement possible."

During her time at USD, Stevens has been deeply embedded in campus life, participating in Kappa Alpha Theta, the Student Government Association, Beta Alpha Psi, Delta Sigma Pi, Big Pal Little Pal and Coyote Business Consulting. That breadth of involvement speaks to a student who has not simply passed through her education but has shaped it.

Professionally, Stevens is currently completing a tax internship with Deloitte in Minneapolis, Minnesota, following an earlier internship with The Bancorp Bank, N.A., where she served as a client account specialist. Upon completing her master's degree, she plans to begin her career with Deloitte as a full-time tax professional and continue working toward her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
