Beacom School of Business Students Expand Learning on International Trade Mission to Germany
The multi-city experience included visits to internationally recognized companies and institutions, attendance at one of the world’s leading trade shows and engagement with industry leaders and university partners throughout Germany.
During the trip, students attended Interzoo, a premier international trade show focused on the global pet industry, where they connected with South Dakota businesses participating in international commerce and learned more about export opportunities and global market trends.
Students also toured major German organizations, including August Vodegel (AVO) production headquarters, CLAAS headquarters, and Volkswagen facilities in Wolfsburg, and Autostadt. Throughout these tours, students gained insight into manufacturing, supply chain operations, innovation and global business strategy.
The delegation also visited Neuschwanstein Castle and experienced German culture and history throughout the program. In Wolfsburg, students spent time with faculty and leadership at Ostfalia University, USD’s international partner institution, where discussions centered on strengthening academic collaboration and future partnership opportunities.
Additional experiences included a visit to the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, where students learned more about international diplomacy, global economics and the relationship between business and government in international trade.
“One of the best parts of this trade mission was seeing students experience international business firsthand,” said Chelsea Limoges, director of industry engagement and organizer of the Germany trade mission. “From meeting with global companies and South Dakota businesses to strengthening partnerships with Ostfalia University and visiting the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, students gained valuable insight into how global business, trade and collaboration impact our world and South Dakota’s economy.”
The Beacom School of Business continues to expand global engagement opportunities for students through international partnerships, experiential learning programs and industry collaboration initiatives—experiences that help prepare students for careers in an increasingly interconnected global economy while also supporting South Dakota businesses and international partnerships.
“This trade mission to Germany provided our students with an exceptional, hands-on opportunity to experience international business in action,” said Klaus Beckmann, Ph.D., interim dean of the Beacom School of Business. “These kinds of experiences are critical in preparing the next generation of business leaders to compete and succeed in a global environment.”
