The South Dakota Science Olympiad competition events span knowledge bases, laboratory skillsets, and project building and cover science topics ranging from biology and human anatomy to technology and engineering.

“The South Dakota Science Olympiad is a great opportunity for middle and high school students across the state to put their science skills to the test,” said James Tracy, state director of the South Dakota Science Olympiad and lecturer in the USD Department of Physics. “At this event, we don’t just want students to come and compete; we want them to discover their passion for science.”

The tournament is organized into two competitive divisions: Division B for middle school teams and Division C for high school teams. The winning teams in each division of the South Dakota tournament will advance to the National Science Olympiad tournament at Wichita State University on May 19-20.

The teams competing in this year’s tournament include the following.

  • Elk Point-Jefferson Middle School
