The National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) is sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) and gives students the opportunity to create a comprehensive advertising campaign for a national sponsor. This year, Indeed was the client for the competition.

“This competition was an excellent opportunity for the students to demonstrate their creative and strategic abilities and network with industry professionals,” said Lori Costello, assistant professor of media & journalism. “I am so proud of these students and all the work they put into this campaign throughout the semester.”

Starting in January, a team of 20 USD students – advised by Costello and Todd Mechling, instructor of media & journalism – worked on an advertising campaign titled “Hidden in Plain Sight.” Four students then represented the USD team at the district competition in Fargo, North Dakota, from April 14-15, where they gave a 20-minute presentation of their work and participated in a Q&A session with competition judges.

“I am so appreciative for the NSAC experience, not just because of what I have learned in the development process, but also because of the real-world experience and networking opportunities,” said Rachel Spinks, a junior majoring in media & journalism. “It was very rewarding to see our hard work develop from a campaign from the ground up, and it was fun to see my teammates develop their strengths and skills over the time of our campaign.”
