USD to Host Event with Local Nonprofit Sharing the Dream in Guatemala
The University of South Dakota is set to host an event in collaboration with Sharing the Dream in Guatemala, a local nonprofit fair-trade organization, on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 2-4 p.m. in the Kozak Room at the Vermillion Public Library.

The Sept. 23 event will feature a demonstration of a traditional backstrap weaving technique.
Sponsored by USD’s anthropology & sociology department; women, gender and sexuality studies program and modern language and linguistics department, the event will showcase the important ongoing projects Sharing the Dream in Guatemala does in collaboration with Indigenous communities in Guatemala. It will also bring a piece of Guatemala to Vermillion with a demonstration of a traditional backstrap weaving technique.
The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be provided by Sabor a Mexico.
Questions about the event can be directed to Crystal Sheedy, Ph.D., assistant professor of anthropology & sociology, at [email protected].
