The SDSMA is a professional organization representing practicing physicians, residents, medical students and retired physicians who are dedicated to improving patient health and advancing the practice of medicine.

Originally from Platte, South Dakota, Meyerink returned to the state after completing his residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he was named Resident of the Year.

Meyerink is a family medicine physician with Avera Medical Group and also serves as director of advising and student success at the Sanford School of Medicine. He has been an active member of the SDSMA since 2014 and has served in several leadership and advocacy roles, including on the organization’s board of directors and policy council. He has also volunteered with the SDSMA’s Doctor of the Day Program and remains actively involved in physician advocacy and leadership.

“The SDSMA has advocated for physicians and patients in South Dakota for well over a century,” Meyerink said. “Medicine is facing unprecedented challenges right now, including access to care, physician shortages—specifically in rural areas—and challenges to evidence-based medicine. South Dakota has some of the best physicians in the country, and I feel honored to lead them and our organization through these challenges to improve the health and lives of all South Dakotans.”
