USD Medical Students Learn Post-Graduate Destinations at Match Day 2025

The 63 new doctors, following graduation in May, will move on to the next stage of their training at clinics, hospitals and health care facilities across the nation.
Destinations for USD medical student residencies include 22 states. South Dakota takes the lead with keeping 11 USD medical school graduates in the state. Nebraska will host nine graduates, while Iowa and Minnesota will host eight and seven, respectively. Four students will go to Kansas and Arizona will host three.
The most popular residency among the Class of 2025 is family medicine, with 10 graduates pursuing training in that area. Nine will receive training in internal medicine; seven in anesthesiology; and five each in pediatrics, general surgery, and psychiatry. Three matched in each OB/GYN and neurology.
Nationally, a record-high 52,498 applicants registered in the 2025 Main Residency Match from all U.S. medical schools and some international medical schools, vying for 43,237 residency positions in the U.S.
