Hossain’s decision to pursue his master’s degree in KSM was rooted in his passion for athletics. As a former cricket athlete with nearly nine years of competing in the sport, Hossain discovered that a strong management team can be found at the center of any successful team or club. Pursuing his degree at USD was a decision informed by the department’s wide range of course offerings and its affordability.

“I chose USD for my master’s degree because it has a diversity of courses, which have helped me gain knowledge and experience from different sectors within the sports industry,” said Hossain. “USD was also the best choice for me to get a degree because it has very affordable tuition fees.”

As an international student navigating higher education in a new environment, Hossain said he has felt overwhelmingly supported by the faculty in the School of Education.

“The experience I’ve had within the KSM department has been beyond my expectations,” he said. “Faculty members are very cooperative and have always been there for me as an international student when facing challenges. It’s a blessing to have instructors who are so passionate about their students’ progress and measure them by their knowledge and skills.”

In addition to the invaluable classroom experiences he’s had, Hossain has also pursued his passion for sports management through a part-time job as a guest management team member with USD Athletics.

“This job has helped me learn how to manage events, which is a crucial skill for sport management,” said Hossain. “I’ve loved welcoming guests and helping them with whatever they need to enjoy the event. I’ve also learned to be prepared for uncertain circumstances and how to deal with these situations in a professional manner.”

While he plans to earn his Ph.D. before fully entering the workforce, Hossain’s classroom learning combined with his professional experiences have well-prepared him for a future career in sport management.

“There is no doubt about the preparation I have gotten from USD,” said Hossain. “The KSM department has given me a well-rounded experience, helping me build my skills for the real world.”
