“Dr. Binsfeld is an outstanding leader with a deep understanding of critical issues facing higher education today,” said David Daigler, president of the Maine Community College System (MCCS). “His commitment to academic excellence and expanding access to underserved communities aligns with our strategic vision, and his experience in workforce development and strategic enrollment initiatives make him an excellent choice to lead the college through the upcoming years.”

A seasoned educator and administrator, Binsfeld previously held the role of associate vice president of academic affairs at Northeast Iowa Community College, where he led institutional accreditation and assessment efforts. Throughout his career, he has advanced initiatives to support underrepresented students, champion women in STEM and strengthen community ties through education.

“I am honored to be selected as president, and I’m looking forward to working with the faculty and staff at NMCC to continue the excellent work taking place on campus and in the broader community,” Binsfeld said.

His leadership extends nationally through his service on the Executive Board of Directors for the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships and his election to the Council on Accreditation for Two-Year Colleges.

Board Chairman Peter DelGreco expressed confidence in Binsfeld’s vision, stating, “I’m looking forward to seeing him apply his experience and expertise as he leads the NMCC community to a bright future.”

Binsfeld earned his doctorate in adult and higher education from USD. He also holds a master’s degree in communication studies from South Dakota State University and a bachelor’s degree in speech communication and Spanish from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

He was selected from a competitive pool of more than 50 candidates during a nationwide search and will succeed Academic Dean Angela Buck, who has served as interim president since the retirement of Tim Crowley in August 2024.

“Dr. Binsfeld’s return to campus leadership reflects the values instilled during his time in the educational leadership program—vision, service and a deep belief in the power of community-centered education,” said Daigler.
