Alex is a South Dakota native and studied English Literature at the University of Chicago. He graduated summa cum laude from the USD Knudson School of Law, then clerked for the Honorable Roger Wollman of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit. He practiced in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for twelve years at Cadwell Sanford Deibert & Garry LLP, with an emphasis in complex commercial litigation, appeals, and fiduciary/trust litigation. He joined the USD Law faculty in 2025.

Alex teaches civil procedure, advanced litigation topics, alternative dispute resolution, and literature and law.
