Dr. Timothy J. Campbell is Associate Professor of Music at the University of South Dakota, where he conducts the Symphonic Choir and Collegium Musicum and teaches choral literature, conducting, and sight-singing. He also serves as Chorus Director of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, hailed by The New Yorker’s Alex Ross as “one of America’s boldest orchestras,” and is Founder and Artistic Director of Transept, winner of The American Prize in Choral Performance. Uniting some of the finest consort singers in the nation with select musicians based in Sioux Falls, Transept has been praised by composer Wayne Oquin of The Juilliard School as “the choral art form at its finest.”
As a professional ensemble tenor, Dr. Campbell has performed with the GRAMMY®-winning ensembles Conspirare and the Houston Chamber Choir, as well as The Rose Ensemble, VocalEssence, The Singers, the South Dakota Chorale, and Kinnara. He has appeared at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall and toured Germany and Spain with The Rose Ensemble, recipient of first prize at the Tolosa International Choral Competition.
Dr. Campbell holds degrees from Bemidji State University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Arizona.
