Before coming to the US in 1994, Dr. Wang had studied/worked in biomedicine for 14 yrs in Wuhan, China. He was appointed Assistant Professor in 2001, promoted to Associate Professor in 2005, tenured in 2006, and became full Professor and Director of the MD/PhD program in 2006.

Dr. X-J Wang's research programs are funded primarily by NIH R01 grants and American Heart Association grants aimed to better understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which primary heart diseases progress to heart failure, as well as the molecular pathogenesis of misfolded proteins, with an emphasis on protein quality control and protein degradation in cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology.
