The event evaluates students’ ability to perform in a competitive environment, demonstrate verbal and nonverbal communication skills and understand the sales process in a business-to-business setting within a competition.

Over 70 students from 14 universities entered the competition. Five students from the Beacom School of Business took part in the Pro-Am Sellathon competition, including John Oynes, Cesar Mahoney, Eli Richards, Jacob Smith, and Drew Miller. Fourteen finalists were chosen by the judges, including Miller and Oynes.

John Oynes, a human resources student from Sioux City, Iowa, won the overall regional competition where he earned the first place trophy, as well as an all-expense paid trip and registration for the National Convention this April in San Diego. Download a photo of Oynes.

“I am proud of the effort this team pursued at this premier sales competition,” said associate professor of marketing Rand Wergin. “This competition required our students to think fast and communicate effectively, qualities necessary in order for a successful career in business. While we are one of the smallest chapters in Pi Sigma Epsilon, we have proven ourselves to be formidable competitors.”

In addition, Beacom students Cassidy Stucky and Paige Lonbaken competed in the Marketing Plan Competition, where Stucky and her team earned second place.  

Pi Sigma Epsilon is a professional business fraternity at the Beacom School of Business dedicated to promoting leadership and networking opportunities to business students at the University of South Dakota. Pi Sigma Epsilon is one of ten active organizations in the business school that allows students opportunities to perform community services, network with employers and alumni, and compete in regional and national competitions.
