SD BRIN Hosts IDeA Regional Meeting
The meeting, hosted at the Denny Sanford Premier Center, will include an opening reception, student and faculty poster sessions, presentations by NIH staff and affinity groups organized by common area of interest.
Barb Goodman, director of SD BRIN, said the conference tried to add in a layer of networking so researchers could talk about their research in a more social setting. “Over the years, the program has become more scientific,” said Goodman. “The schedule has added back the sharing of experiences. It’s important to share resources and ideas.”
Jon R. Lorsch, Ph.D., director of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, will speak at the conference introduction. Lorsch oversees NIGMS which supports more than 3,000 investigators and 4,500 research grants – over 11 percent of the total number of research grants funded by NIH as a whole. Additionally, NIGMS supports approximately 26.3 percent of the NRSA trainees who receive assistance from NIH.
