On May 23-24, UPD is hosting the National Association for Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment Behavior Intervention Team (BIT) Standards and Best Practices Training & Certification. The training will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Attendees will benefit from expert-led sessions on defining BITs, using an objective risk rubric for all BIT referrals, developing appropriate interventions, utilizing mandated assessments, and marketing/advertising the team based on survey data, research and literature in the fields of threat assessment, psychology and law enforcement.

On June 20-21, UPD is hosting Texas A&M TEEX and the University of Southern Mississippi National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security, and they will be presenting AWR-167 Sport and Special Event Risk Management.

The Sport and Special Event Risk Management course is designed to build sport and special event risk management capabilities for community-wide collaboration and mitigation. Through activity-based training modules, safety and security teams will increase their knowledge of planning, risk assessment, training and continuous improvement practices. The expectation is for participants to return to their respective sport venues and coordinate the development or enhancement of a sport event security management system.

The final event will take place Aug. 9-10. UPD will host the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium for MGT 355: Event Security Planning for Public Safety Professionals.

This course is designed to educate small and rural community public safety personnel, as well as local officials, about security concerns and considerations involved with planning events. This course enables participants to recognize and plan adequate strategies and security measures to prevent or mitigate security incidents which may occur during scheduled events. This course reinforces the importance and magnitude of security planning required to execute a safe and effective event, regardless of the size.
