“The intent to host International Education Week is to help folks recognize and then celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide,” said Virginija Wilcox, director of the Gallagher Center for Experiential Learning & Education Abroad. “We hope that the programming prepared for the week will help the USD community celebrate global cultures.”

Throughout the week, the community can enjoy virtual cooking demonstrations led by USD faculty and staff, informative sessions on study abroad and faculty-led programs, live presentations about trends in global education, music performances, virtual reality experiences, art and clothing displays and more.

Each day, USD dining will serve an international lunch special with recipes inspired by Germany, Vietnam, Greece, India and Thailand. Various country flags will be showcased in the Muenster University Center Pit and the I.D. Weeks Library.

The USD Center for Diversity & Community will host the International Bazaar Wednesday, Nov. 18 in the Muenster University Center Ballroom 5:30-7:30 p.m. The bazaar will feature food, activities, a global market, language exchange and entertainment. There will be a special Festival of Lights in honor of Diwali, hosted by the Asian American Student Association.

"I'm very excited for the International Bazaar to finally happen on campus as this has been in the works for a while, and I'm glad the Center for Diversity & Community has decided to initiate it,” said Saeed Dabbour ’19, intercultural program coordinator. “Students always wanted to have a bazaar or marketplace feel to an event where there are various options for everyone to experience different cultures."

The event is free for USD students and $5 for community and staff. Masks and social distancing will be required.

International Education Week and the International Bazaar are hosted by the International Office, the Gallagher Center for Experiential Learning & Education Abroad, the Center for Diversity & Community, the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics, the International Club, the Asian American Student Association and the African Student Association.
