USD Chapter Recognized with National Delta Sigma Pi Award
Delta Sigma Pi is a professional business fraternity at the Beacom School of Business dedicated to promoting leadership and networking opportunities to business students at the University of South Dakota.
The Alpha Eta Chapter was recognized with the National Outstanding Financial Operations award, which is presented each year to only one chapter in the nation. This award is presented to the chapter that plans and implements the most effective and comprehensive program of fundraising and financial. In addition to being awarded the national Outstanding Financial Operations award, USD Delta Sigma Pi was also recognized with the Provincial and Regional Outstanding Financial Operations awards for their territory.
“I’m extremely proud of the amount of dedication the members of Delta Sigma Pi have demonstrated,” said Professor Dan Tracy, chapter advisor for Delta Sigma Pi. “Being recognized with the National Outstanding Financial Operations award is an amazing accomplishment that truly reflects on the integrity, commitment and hard work of the Alpha Eta chapter at the Beacom School of Business.”
Mitchell Hanson, an accounting student from Pierre, South Dakota, was presented with the Mr. and Mrs. Sidney A. Sparks Collegian of the Year Award for the Great Plains region. This award is presented annually to the one outstanding Delta Sigma Pi member in the region for their contributions, achievements, participation, and personal character.
“Mitchell is a wonderful example of a person who truly embodies Delta Sigma Pi’s values of service and principled leadership,” stated Tracy. “He has a wonderful ability to inspire and unite other members at Deltasig and we are honored to have him as a brother of our fraternity.”
The Alpha Eta Chapter was also recognized with the Chapter of Excellence accreditation for the second year. A Chapter of Excellence is a chapter that is operationally sound with a well-rounded program focusing on larger scale events and National Fraternity promotion. Additionally, the Beacom School of Business Delta Sigma Pi earned the Outstanding Alumni Relations for the Great Plains region, as well as recognition as a Legacy Chapter for the Bucks for Brotherhood program.

The University of South Dakota is set to host the fifth annual Three Minute Thesis Competition. The preliminary round is Feb. 9 from 3-5 p.m., followed by the final competition on Feb. 16 from 3-5 p.m. in the Al Neuharth Freedom Forum.
