This comes as USDFAA prepares to implement a more strategic business model that supports a vision for long-term growth, expansion of donor engagement opportunities, and a strengthened capacity to better serve the entire university community.

“This record year is a testament to the profound generosity of our donors,” said USDFAA President & CEO Noah Shepard. “Many of these gifts are truly transformational, and we are grateful to all who chose to invest in USD this year.”

USD President Sheila K. Gestring echoed those sentiments.

“We deeply value the support of our Coyote alumni and friends,” said Gestring. “Their commitment to our students and strong connection to our mission enrich the university experience and help shape a stronger future for USD.”

More than $15 million was directed to scholarships, USD’s top fundraising priority. Among these gifts was a $3 million gift from alumnus Gary ’78 and Sue Ellis. In early 2025, the couple launched Ellis Impact, a matching initiative created to spur investment in the Coyote Beginnings Scholarship Fund, a general scholarship fund which supports access and strengthens enrollment at USD.

Other highlights of FY25 giving included more than $22 million in estate gifts, reflecting donors’ commitment to leave a lasting legacy at USD by supporting scholarships, academic programs and campus enhancements for future generations. USD Athletics received two transformational gifts—among the largest private donations in program history—further strengthening support for student-athletes. A significant gift was also made to expand internship opportunities for students, enhancing career readiness and experiential learning. Additionally, two new endowments were established to advance faculty excellence through a named professorship and a new chair.

USDFAA also celebrated its most successful giving day in university history, with more than 1,930 donors giving $2.67 million during the Unite for USD campaign. Calling All Coyotes, an annual red-tie event and auction for Coyote Athletics, also broke fundraising records for the second consecutive year.

“What we’ve witnessed this year is a reflection of community strength and the collective impact of supporters at every level,” said Shepard. “This next chapter is about intentional growth—shaping a foundation that leads with purpose, delivers with excellence, and endures for generations.”
