“The collaborative effort of the Governor’s Seventh Biennial Art Exhibition will bring together far-reaching and sometimes disparate elements to paint a big picture of the state of visual art in South Dakota and those who create it,” said Patrick Baker, executive director of the South Dakota Arts Council.

The reception features a traveling exhibition, sponsored by the South Dakota Governor’s Office, which showcases 67 diverse artists currently living and working throughout the state of South Dakota.

“It’s a great honor to be one of the venues hosting this exhibition, as it showcases the diverse art making talents that we have in South Dakota,” said Michelle St. Vrain, director of the John A. Day Gallery at USD. “I believe this show acts as a great learning tool for the students of USD because it highlights the broad range of subject matter, media, and styles that artists are using to create their voice with our community.”

“The Biennial was conceived 14 years ago as a way to celebrate and encourage South Dakota’s talented artists and to serve as a historical record, sharing some of South Dakota’s best works and greatest artists with statewide audiences now and in the future,” said Gov. Dennis Daugaard in a release previewing the event. “I extend my appreciation to all those artists who submitted their artwork to this Biennial and to the institutions and sponsors who made this show possible. It is an honor to endorse this significant event that unveils the professionalism, imagination, and talent of our state’s artists.”

The event begins at 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
