USD Receives National Award for State Authorization and Compliance Innovation
The SANsational Award recognizes the outstanding efforts of its members in developing clear and comprehensive solutions to challenging state authorization and compliance issues. 2021 marks the seventh year that the SAN has granted these awards.
This honor exemplifies good practice and highlights the innovative work of the institution’s compliance staff or team. Their efforts inspire other institutions to consider, review and adapt solutions to tackle a challenging, yet critical institutional obligation.
“We are honored to be recognized by SAN for the innovative compliance tools we developed,” said LaDonna Rodvold, USD’s state authorization specialist. “These tools help campus stakeholders understand the importance of compliance and to help align their programmatic efforts with applicable rules and regulations developed to support students.”
USD was presented the award during the SAN Workshop hosted at the university on Dec. 6. The workshop, presented by WCET-SAN staff, brought personnel from higher education institutions from across South Dakota together to discuss the holistic approach to out-of-state activity compliance.
“When we learned SAN staff would be coming to USD to present this award, we saw it as a unique opportunity to combine it with an interactive and collaborative workshop with other higher education institutions throughout the state,” Julie Barnett, director of Continuing and Distance Education, said. “We believe this will be the first of many more collegial events with our compliance peers.”
The SAN, an arm of the WCET, is a national leader in policy, analysis and practice for digital learning. The organization assists institutions in their pursuit of compliance with state and federal laws which govern our educational operations, distance education activities and student consumer protections.
