USD Sanford School of Medicine Announces Dean of Rural Medicine Position
“The new title and responsibilities recognize Dr. Anderson’s outstanding and ongoing work supporting rural medicine through collaborations with rural physicians, hospitals and clinics,” said Mary Nettleman, M.D., dean of the medical school.
Nettleman said the new position will seek to expand the number of meaningful rural medical experiences that students at the university’s medical school can have. The position will also pursue external funding to support initiatives aiding rural health care and encouraging pre-college South Dakotans to enter careers in medicine and the health professions.
Dr. Anderson will continue serving the medical school in other capacities, including as the director of its Frontier and Rural Medicine (FARM) program and also as chair of the Department of Family Medicine. She resides in Canistota, South Dakota, maintains a medical practice in that community and in Sioux Falls, and is a 1997 graduate of the USD Sanford School of Medicine.
