USD to Host NSF I-CORPS Training Throughout October
The NSF I-Corps Regional Training program uses experiential education to prepare student scientists and engineers to expand their focus beyond the university laboratory and help researchers gain valuable insight into entrepreneurship, the process of starting a business or industry requirements and challenges.
The free, five-week course will equip teams with the necessary skills to effectively design products and services that offer tangible benefits to customers. Teams will gain insights that can be used to develop a focused commercialization plan that facilitates the transition of technology from the lab to the marketplace. Teams will also learn how to accurately represent the customer’s voice, which will provide investors and partners with an unbiased perspective on the strategies used for commercialization.
Fall 2026 cohort dates include:
- Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1 - 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Oct.13, 1 - 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, Oct.21, 1 - 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, Oct.28, 1 - 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1 - 4 p.m.
Randy Faustino, Ph.D., associate professor of practice in the USD Department of Biomedical Engineering, will lead the discussions.
Courses within the training will use structured lectures and proven practices to help teams engage more meaningfully with customers, including strategies to improve communication within the customer ecosystem. The training will be delivered virtually via Zoom.
