Vermillion Literary Project Poetry Slam This Thursday
The University of South Dakota’s Vermillion Literary Project hosts a poetry slam with Wayne State College this Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Varsity Pub in downtown Vermillion.
The poetry slam will be hosted and emceed by USD English students Chris Kaiser and Meggin Killion.
“Our goal with the poetry slam is to re-elevate the spoken word and the performance of poetry as a serious and exciting form of art,” said Kaiser.
When asked what attendees might expect, Kaiser answered. “People getting up and reading their stuff which is often powerful, confessional, even cathartic, for poet and audience alike.”
To participate, attendees must bring three original poems. Prizes will be awarded to the top three competitors.
The event is open to the public including those under 21 years of age.
