Hands-on learning activities, outside of the traditional classroom.

Learning outside the classroom means gaining real-world experience, knowledge and skills from hands-on opportunities. You'll have the opportunity to support a community agency, study in a developing nation or participate with a research team.

The Gallagher Center for Experiential Learning & Education Abroad (GC) houses resources for students like you who want to enrich their academic experiences while making themselves marketable after graduation. Students can find opportunities such as:

  • Alternative Week of Off-Campus Learning (AWOL)
  • Study abroad

student success story

Success story Lauren Schild smiling.
I joined a group on campus called Alternative Week of Off-Campus Learning (AWOL). I began as a participant and travelled to Pine Ridge, SD to complete a week of service learning, and then I became a site leader for the alternative break in Puerto Rico. I met a variety of new people and was able to expand my understanding of other communities in the US.
