Housing Information and FAQs

Below are some frequently asked questions about housing and meal plans at USD. Check out these resources and contact the University Housing office if you have any questions.

What to Bring/What to Leave at Home

We offer helpful tips on what to bring and what to leave at home when moving in.

What to Bring

  • XL-Twin Sheets, Pillow(s), Blankets, etc.
  • Surge Protectors (UL approved)
  • Roku or amazon Fire stick or similar device - No cable in the residence halls. Direct wire to Ethernet port recommended.
  • A 42” flat screen TV is provided in every living room
  • Towels, washcloths, robe, etc.
  • Shower caddy/bucket and shower shoes
  • Dry erase board and markers
  • Clothes hangers
  • Warm coat and boots
  • Umbrella
  • Dishes, silverware, cups, etc.
  • Fan
  • Clothes iron
  • Bicycle (with lock)
  • Lanyard, Wallet, or ID Holder
  • Laundry bag/basket
Provided in Coyote Village

(nothing can be removed)

  • 42in Flat screen TV
  • Microwave
  • Full size refrigerator
  • Stove and oven in Apartments only

What to Leave at Home

  • Candles, Candle Warmers, Potpourri Pots, etc.
  • Alcohol/Alcohol Containers
  • Halogen lamps or signs
  • Extension cords
  • Pets
    • You can have fish
    • Each room may have one 10-gallon tank
  • Open element appliances
    • Pizzazz Pizza Ovens, Toasters, Electric grills, etc.
    • Mini Fridges are not allowed in Coyote Village
  • Firearms and weapons
  • Fireworks, ammunition, combustible materials/chemicals, etc.
  • Waterbeds
  • Incense and Incense Burners
    • An exemption for religious/cultural reasons may be granted by Housing Office.

  • Refrigerator (5.0 cubic ft and 1.5 amps max) – 1 per room
    • A refrigerator is available for students to use in the floor kitchen
  • Microwave (700 watts max) – 1 per room
    • A microwave is available for students to use in the floor kitchen
  • TV and a roku or amazon Fire stick or similar device - No cable in the residence halls. Direct wire to Ethernet port recommended.
  • Towels, washcloths, robe, etc.
  • Shower caddy/bucket and shower shoes
  • Dry erase board and markers
  • Clothes hangers
  • Warm coat and boots
  • Umbrella
  • Carpet
    • Room dimensions are approximately 15’4” X 10’ 7”
    • Must be able to see the weave on the back (no foam padding please)
  • Dishes, silverware, cups, etc.
  • Fan
  • Clothes iron

  • Lanyard, Wallet, or ID Holder
  • Laundry bag/basket
