Dear USD Stakeholder:

As South Dakota’s flagship university, the University of South Dakota is shaping leaders every day. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to enhancing the lives of our students and empowering them to dream, discover, innovate and achieve.

Across USD’s campus, leaders from all areas are preparing for a new era of educational excellence. In May 2019, 42 faculty and staff members began working on USD’s next strategic plan. This new and bold vision will serve as a roadmap for our future, building a foundation that allows us to better meet the needs of our students, capitalize on our unique strengths and elevate our institution as a leader in higher education. To accomplish this, we need ideas and feedback from people like you.

Take USD's stakeholder survey

We have already begun our listening and data-gathering process and will continue to meet with our stakeholders until October 2019. I know each of you brings a different perspective on how to make USD the nation’s premier small, public university built upon a liberal arts foundation. Whether you’re a student, faculty member, community member, business leader, tribal representative or citizen of our state, you have a vested interest in USD’s success.

Our Strategic Planning Task Force will be soon reaching out to members of our internal and external communities to arrange meeting times. If you are unable to attend one of the sessions, we welcome your input through our stakeholder survey.

You will find this strategic plan is distinctively different than past plans. It will be a systematic, continuous improvement plan that is true to the mission of the university and in which all university decisions are rooted. As we advance forward, we hope you stay up to date on our progress via our strategic planning website. I sincerely appreciate the time and effort given by our Strategic Planning Task Force team members as they connect with stakeholders across the region, both inside and outside of the university, to obtain data and insight to inform our new plan.

With teamwork and collaboration, this plan will ensure that the University of South Dakota remains at the forefront of higher education in South Dakota for decades to come. Thank you for your participation – we look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

President Sheila K. Gestring portraitSheila K. Gestring
