We unite the campus and Vermillion community through sustainable practices. You'll find sustainability in community initiatives such as:
Greening Vermillion aims to help Vermillion grow through projects that bring people together to conserve natural resources. As a nonprofit, the group unites government agencies, USD and other community organizations, businesses and individuals to create energy-efficient and sustainable practices, programs and regulations for Vermillion and Clay County.
Vermillion Area Farmers Market is open year round, featuring locally grown produce, jams and jellies, soaps, arts and crafts, eggs, cheese, meat and poultry and plants.
The Vermillion Community Garden provides local residents with the space and opportunity to raise their own garden, free from chemicals, and in the company of a supportive and friendly community.
The Missouri Valley Recycling Center is a drop-off facility provided through the cooperative effort of cities and counties in southeastern South Dakota. It is available to the public and businesses located in Clay, Yankton and portions of Union County.
Native Americans discovered it, Lewis & Clark documented it and today we're building prairies on it. Come visit!
