Beta Alpha Psi USD Chapter Generates Buzz at 2023 Mid-Year Meetings in Seattle

USD BAP earned a monetary award and an invitation to compete at the BAP Annual Meeting in Las Vegas in August. They will compete against 30 teams from around the globe.
The group also presented during Chapter Operations and impressed members from other chapters with the amount of community service USD BAP has completed.
USD BAP hosts annual food drives for United Way and Charlie’s Cupboard and provides tutoring for Principles of Accounting students.
“Going on Beta Alpha Psi's Mid-Year meeting trip to Seattle was an amazing opportunity,” said Megan Bierschbach, a senior accounting major. “It was very informational to be able to hear from the keynote speakers from the Seattle Seahawks and the breakout room sessions. It was amazing to be able to network with other BAP chapters as well as business professionals.”
BAP is an international honor organization for financial information students and professionals, with over 300 college chapters and over 300,000 initiated collegiate members since its foundation in 1919.
“Beta Alpha Psi has given me the opportunity to network with potential future employers around the area. The organization allows me to get a sense of what type of culture and community I want to work for in the future,” stated Trey Peterson, a senior double major in accounting and operational analytics, and USD’s BAP president. “BAP has also given me the chance to grow my leadership ability.
USD BAP brings regional business professionals to campus every week to present, network and recruit.
“To me, it really says something that these firms are willing to take a 10-12 hour round trip mid-week for the opportunity to meet with and recruit our members over a short meeting. I believe the reason for this is because of how well-known Beta Alpha Psi is as an international organization,” said Derek Franken, instructor of accounting and chapter advisor. “Firms know that the members are required to maintain a minimum GPA as well as complete professional and service hours to maintain their status as a member in good standing, which is why they are willing to go to such lengths to recruit our BAP students.
“The best part about being the advisor for Beta Alpha Psi is to get the opportunity to see the members develop over the years,” Franken continued. “I see so many students come in shy and uncertain, but after a couple years of networking with their peers, professionals and other BAP chapters, I get to watch as they turn into confident, well-rounded individuals who are some of the most sought-after employees in any market. I am beyond proud of all the Beta Alpha Psi members, and I consider myself lucky to be part of their lives.”
