“Creating the POET Center for Business Analytics is a strategic priority for the Beacom School of Business to help brand and distinguish the school as one of the premier business schools in the nation,” stated Venky Venkatachalam, dean of the Beacom School of Business.

The POET Center for Business Analytics is the inaugural academic center of excellence established in the Beacom School of Business. The center grew from a faculty proposal that involves multiple departments in the business school and will create opportunities for academic research, student involvement and engagement with business professionals.

“POET is a great South Dakota success story and a tremendous partner in the creation of the POET Center for Business Analytics at South Dakota’s flagship business school,” said James W. Abbott, president of the University of South Dakota.

During the dedication, Thomas Tiahrt, Ph.D., was named the POET Professor of Business Analytics. Tiahrt stated, “If I was summarizing POET in one word, that word would be innovation. It is an honor to receive this distinction associated with such a forward-thinking company.”

Venkatachalam honored Tiahrt by saying, “We are in the business of creating knowledge and the best way to support that is through our talented faculty. Dr. Tiahrt is a professional, practitioner, and a scholar with real-world expertise.”
