“As an immigrant and artist, my work reflects a deep interest in cultural memory, identity and exchange,” said Astete. “This perspective inspired me to organize an international portfolio exchange that brings together professional artists and students from over 23 schools across multiple states.”

For this exchange, 29 participating artists were invited to reflect on the theme “Culture Currency,” examining what is left behind, what has been taken away and what remains. This collaborative effort resulted in an edition of 29 original prints, each accompanied by an artist statement.

Together, these works offer different perspectives and personal narratives, serving as a resource for students and the wider community to engage with global stories, ideas and inspiration. This project represents not only an academic and creative milestone but also an opportunity to foster dialogue about culture, memory and exchange through printmaking.

“We are thrilled to host this student-curated print exhibition in Gallery 110,” said Amy Fill, director of University Art Galleries. “USD holds a number of print portfolios in its collection, and this exhibition honors that ongoing tradition.”

The exhibition will open Sept. 26, with a small reception from 5–6:30 p.m. The art will remain on view until Oct. 26 at University Gallery 110.
